Our Logo

The Eagle

Our national bird, majestic and bold, king of all birds. The mouth is open to represent the voice of our members. The eagle is standing on the ballot box to protect the integrity of our elections.

The Locked Ballot Box

Our voice is heard through our vote. But our voice is made more quiet if our elections are not secure. The locked ballot box represents our commitment to the protection and integrity of our electoral process.

Red Franklin County

Franklin County is currently exclusively Republican at the county and district level, which is represented by red. This represents our activism in promoting the principles, objectives and policies of the Republican Party, to strengthen the Party throughout the county and keep it red.

Affiliation with the Republican Women Federations

Thank God we are not in the era of women suffrage. Fortunately for us, we do not have to stand alone or re-invent the wheel. Great women have paved the way for us.

The National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) has been blazing a trail for nearly 90 years, and the Alabama Federation of Republican Women (AFRW) has been a charter of NFRW for over 60 years. A lot of experience from which we can glean! We became a charter of these organizations in March 2025. Our voices will be a lot stronger when they are heard in unison with thousands of others.

The National Federation of Republican Women is a national women’s political organization composed of State, Federation, and local Clubs in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The NFRW is the largest women’s political organization in the world.

The NFRW was founded in 1938 at a conference held in Chicago for the purpose of uniting the various state Republican women’s organizations into one Federation under the leadership of Miss Marion Martin who was the Vice Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

The emblem of the NFRW is the American golden eagle holding a quill pen and standing guard over our most treasured tool of democracy – the ballot box, symbolizing the Federation’s dedication to the integrity and protection of our electoral process.

The NFRW headquarters are located in Alexandria, Virginia and exists to provide service and assistance to State Federations and Clubs across our country. The NFRW meets at their Biennial Conventions held in the fall of odd numbered years.

About the Alabama Federation of Republican Women (AFRW)

The Alabama Federation had its beginning in 1956 when Mary Ellen Miller established the Mobile Republican Women’s Club with the women volunteers in the Eisenhower’s campaign headquarters. As the group continued to grow and prosper, they were instrumental in forming more clubs in the Mobile area. As the concept grew, Mary Ellen began to travel the state to talk to women’s groups which held political leanings.

Because of her strong Republican influence, Mary Ellen was invited to join the Mobile county GOP Executive Committee, where she became active and was a delegate to the 1960 Republican National Convention. That became pivotal in the birth of AFRW. There she met the President of the NFRW, who gave her instruction and encouragement to bring Alabama into NFRW. At that time, only Alaska and Alabama had no Federation affiliation.

The major unmet requirement was to have at least one active Club in each Congressional District, and Mary Ellen and her team successfully completed this and all other requirements for acceptance. Alabama’s application for membership was issued by NFRW in 1962 as the Alabama Federation of Republican Women.
